Sydney Colt groupies will know from following these posts that I detest Saturday racing being held at provincial tracks. I wasn’t even going to look at the fields but then I got a tip from Randwick for one of Gai’s runners. When this happens you have to sit up and take notice.
Race 3 n3 NORTHERN GLORY e/w I am told Gai has it primed and ready for a 1st up tilt. I grabbed $7 e/w on Thursday. I have no great confidence as I do not like betting at provincial tracks but e/w seems a safe way of protecting our bankroll.
I have been watching the betting on Flemington race 1 n11 MISS STEELE where since Wednesday to now (Friday night) it has firmed from $7.0 to $3.4. It will be interesting to see if champion Melbourne tipster Gelding has it among his selections.
Happy mother’s day for tomorrow to all of our maternal punt drunks and Sydney Colt groupies.
We have spread our wings this weekend in a bid to secure a modest profit. Racing in Brisbane is hotting up and is becoming viable. You must bet with corporate bookies in Bris and Adel as these 2 cities bring the greatest variance in the 3 tote dividends.
Sydney Race 3 n1 ANEVAY There is mail around to say this first up specialist is again ready to perform. Has great toe out of the barriers and we hope to see an all the way win.
Adelaide Race 7 n1 MOMENT OF CHANGE If ratings mean anything this neddy has heaps on its rivals. Has been backed from Wednesday to now as if unbeatable. The bet of the day but you wont get the $3.50 on offer Wed.
Brisbane Race 7 n 2 RAIN AFFAIR and n10 SEA SIREN. Back both level stakes as they are around $6 each. Rain Affair got within 0.8 lengths of All Too Hard last start and it would be odds on in this field. Must include Sea Siren as everyone at Randwick says it has been working the place down.
Last Saturday we targeted just the one race and made a modest profit. That takes our 2013 tally to 17 winning bets from 27 races. At this stage of the year we have smiling Sydney Colt groupies and punt drunks everywhere. It is never too late to jump aboard.
Race 1 n1 TOYDINI The most improved neddy in Sydney since being gelded. No fancy price but looks a safe conveyance.
Race 4 n9 ITS A DUNDEEL Why does everyone want to knock this one today? Forget the 3yo form history of this race as this neddy is one out of the box. Can sprint and stay!
Race 5 n3 FAST ‘N’ ROCKING e/w Looks a great bet e/w and has been crying out for a longer trip. Barrier 1 is a ++
Race 6 n4 KELINNI Ran 4th in Melb Cup so do I need to say any more? Is in form and this is a weak Sydney Cup.
Race 7 n6 MORE JOYOUS The 1400m is ideal for this class mare. With race fitness on her side. I have doubts All Too Hard can give it a head start and a beating.
The Gelding’s attention remains at Caulfield this Saturday although he is likely to have a wager north of the border as well. Last week he was only a bit off the mark, but, in this game a miss is as good as a mile. As the Gelding says “That’s racing”.
To quote the Sydney Colt, our confidence is not lost so let’s get about picking some winners!
As always the bets are on an each way and all up basis.
Race 2 Horse 3 - Coins (for the ladies at the Tennis club)
Race 5 Horse 6 - Rugged Cross
Race 6 Horse 11 - Tigerland (also for the ladies at the Tennis club)
Race 7 Horse 13 - Rifleman
Race 8 Horse 13 - Vibrant Rouge – will also be interested to see how Horse 14 Our Emily Mia goes as Danish Rock beat this horse at Cranbourne on 30 March 2012.
You can hear the Gelding discuss racing with the Professor every Sunday on Sportzfan Radio at 12.30pm on 88.3 Southern FM. The Gelding’s segment is sponsored by the Great Western Hotel.
Our 1 bet last week ran a shocker and I noted the stewards report said it pulled up distressed. Well I think I was feeling worse than the neddy! So it was money lost but our confidence is still sky high with our 2013 punting showing 16 winning races from 26 bets. With a heavy 9 at Randwick we are only betting in 1 race where I am extremely confident our betting strategy will return a modest profit.
Race 2 n1 EVERAGE and n2 MAJOR CONQUEST. Back both level stakes on BOBs (Luxbet, Betstar & Bookmaker.com). With these 2 we are covering the superior form lines and taking account of the heavy track. If you are not backing them BOBs you may as well keep your wallet in your coat pocket.
Last week was memorable with 4 bets for 4 wins, with 3 of them over $3 for those that bet BOBs (Luxbet, Betstar & Bookmaker.com). So for 2013 we have now had 25 bets for 16 wins. Very tough day to tip as the 3 group 1 races all have odds on favs. No point in tipping them as any Tom, Dick or Harry can. Just 1 bet today and then sit back and enjoy group racing for the remainder of the day.
Race 1 n6 IL CAVALLO This neddy is a winner from its only start and ran great sectionals. After today will be heading out for a rest before a big Spring campaign. They didn’t bring it to Sydney for the wonderful sunshine. This is possibly a 2 horse race but IL CAVALLO has the advantage of barrier 1.
Last week we had 3 bets for 2 wins including SIDESTEP who paid $3.2 BOBs. As I keep repeating you must bet BOBs with the corporate bookies to get the best odds (Luxbet, Betstar & Bookmaker.com). Our tally of winning bets for 2013 is now 12 from 21. Those who followed comments made on the 16 Feb post re OVERREACH may be like me and have this Golden Slipper fav running for us at $17.00 – give it strength!!
Race 1 n1 LIGHTS OF HEAVEN Placed in a Caulfield Cup and has a ton of class on this lot.
Race 4 n3 NORZITA Back to own age group and would have won last start if not slow out.
Race 7 n11 OVERREACH Give it strength for those of us who grabbed a slice of $17 on 16 Feb.
Race 8 n11 PIERRO Load up on this neddy as it will win!! Has a lot on this field on ratings and recent form. Unbeaten in Sydney and will keep that record today.
4 winning bets from 6 last week gives us a records of 10 from 18 in 2013. It is very hard to find winners today except perhaps IT’s A DUNDEEL which just about picks itself. Anyway we have 3 bets today for Sydney Colt groupies and punt drunks everywhere.
Race 4 n4 SIDESTEP Comes out of the Black Opal which has proved a hot form race. Dumped the jockey last Saturday. If McEvoy can hang on it will be in the placings for sure.
Race 6 n2 IT’S A DUNDEEL I was keen on this neddy before the scratching of Fiveandahalfstars and therefore it now moves to a “good thing” bet. Very skinny in betting so betting BOBs with several of the corporate bookies is a must.
Race 9 n3 SOFT SAND Keen on this Melb raider who has a touch of class on the opposition. The biggest worry is any lack of pace.
Last week left us a little cold with 2 seconds from 2 bets. That left us with 6 wins from 12 bets in 2013. Today we have identified a host of bets, with some at juicy each way prices for Sydney Colt groupies and punt drunks everywhere.
Race 2 n2 OVERREACH Expect this will confirm her as the hot Slipper fav.
Race 3 n9 LUNAYIR e/w Last win great. If it had a decent barrier it would be a certainty to fill a hole. Hoping for a bit of luck in the 1st 300m.
Race 4 n5 CHARLIE BOY I suspect this neddy may be the pick of the colts for the Slipper. Like LUNAYIR this one needs an ounce of luck from the barrier.
Race 5 n10 HIGH SHOT e/w This Melb visitor has had excuses this preparation. Has a ton of potential. Definitely over the odds.
Race 8 n10 PIERRO 3yos have had a dominant season. Expect this champ to beat some very good group 1 horses. Blinkers go back on!!
Race 9 n13 SANTA DE NOCHE We are blessed to have such a great bet in the “getout stakes”.
