The red hotties for Flemington races on 6 November 2021 and the Professor’s Parlay

An ordinary outing for the tipsters on Oaks Day but, as the Sydney Colt says, as long as the confidence is not lost we’re OK. The track is currently rated a Good 4 but there are showers forecast during the day. The rail is out 8 metres for the entire circuit.

Don’t forget to back the tips each way!

AFL & NRL Grand Finals, Arsenal…..

Chris Barwin HillsWell the AFL Grand Final is over and the competition has seen it’s second three-peat in the space of 15 years and this is in the context of a competition which has a salary cap and draft which is supposed to even out the competition. You factor in that Geelong has also won three in five years in that same period and the Swans have played in four Grand Finals and won two as well and it seems to be an indicator that once clubs get to the top it is hard to topple them despite the imagesdraft and salary cap. It has meant that Brisbane who completed the initial three-peat struggled after competing in the last of their grand finals in 2004 and Geelong are starting to struggle now having finished out of the finals for the first time in nine years. It seems though that teams are having long sustained runs at or near the top. Free agency and trading also favours teams up the top as good players only want to go to ‘destination’ clubs.

The NRL provided a lot more interesting grand final than the AFL with the high drama of the golden point result. While it might be sour bennettgrapes on the part of Wayne Bennett, I must say I think to lose a game in that circumstance would be pretty hard to take. If they are going to have extra time, it should be ten minutes each way as the golden point comes down to luck or bad luck as Brisbane’s Hunt would attest.

It was good to see last years VRC Derby winner, Preferment win the Turnbull Stakes and last years VRC Oaks winner, Set Square run third in the same race. Too often these days the winners of those races Unknown-6disappear the following year to be never seen again. I hope they both go on and have a successful spring carnival as it adds to the value of those races.

It was also great to see the Gunners fight back after a very disappointing display at home against Olypiakos during the week to alexis-sanchez-arsenal-burnley_3223813come out and trounce Manchester United by 3-0. The three goals came in the first 20 minutes and Man U did not look like scoring. I think this year Arsenal have a side which could be good enough to win the title, they just need to be consistent through the entire season.

Have a great weekend!

Sportzfan Radio #177.1

@SportzfanRadio now available on iTunes!31 October 2010 177.1 – Paul Gamble hosts this weeks show – can he fill the Professor’s shoes?  The Gelding is brought onto the Panel at the last moment as the race meeting at Kilmore that Queen Asa was running in was washed out.  Daniel observes that Gambler is dressed more suitably than the Professor was last week – “He was dressed like a 16 year old thug – an American football jumper with his hat on backwards!”.  Even though the Professor had a week off, he was still on the phone talking the AFL draw, the Spring Carnival as Kelly Osbourne or Scary Spice wouldn’t add to his enjoyment of the races – they’re going because it is a party.  He tells Daniel he hadn’t spoken to the VRC to arrange a million dollar appearance fee for him at the Cup and he wants to know when Southern FM are going to have their own celebrity tent at the Spring carnival.  The future of cricket is a worry due to poor participation rates and probably of more concern, they are falling.  The Gelding talks Derby day races and sums up the Flemington meeting.  By the end of the meeting, the track was heavily affected by rain.  So You Think had a comfortable win in the conditions and now has five Group 1 wins.  The Sydney Colt’s tip, Skilled did not perform as expected even though he thought it would win.

The Gelding’s tips for Flemington 30 October 2010

The Gelding’s attention turns to VRC headquarters this week for the Cup Carnival.  Unfortunately, it looks like being a bit wet overnight and tomorrow so punters make sure you take note of weather conditions and the horses that like the wet track.

As always the tips are on an each way and all up basis.

The Gelding's tips for Flemington on 3 October 2010

The Gelding’s attention like everyone else has been diverted on Saturday to the Collingwood/St Kilda AFL Grand Final replay. Fortunately the VRC decided to move Flemington’s races to Sunday so his attention can now be fairly and squarely on the fields for tomorrow’s races.

As always the tips are on an each way and all up basis.

Race 3 Horse 1 – Skilled
Race 7 – The gelding has yet to make a decision on this race and likes Horse 1 Shocking, Horse 5 Shootout and Horse 9 Typhoon Tracey (listen to Sportzfan Radio tomorrow to hear which one he eventually selects)
Race 8 Horse 4 – Haylist (for the ladies from the Tennis club)
Race 9 Horse 15 – We’re Gonna Rock (also for the ladies from the Tennis club)
