Sydney Colt’s Mail For Rosehill 17 Sept 2011

A perfect spring day in Sydney today and all the Sydney Colt groupies know how much I love a dry track. It does look a day of favs which should have alarm bells ringing for punt drunks. The secret is to allow the pro punters, trackmen and ratings expert do the hard yards for us. Out tips today come from weeding through their best advice.

Race 3 n3 STRIKE THE STARS Very well placed coming back from WFA. The increase in distance is a definite plus. Has been wowing them on the track.

Race 4 n1 TRUSTING Never been one of my fav horses but it looks to sit on the pace here and will have the best sprint to finish off the race. Best in race on ratings and has been working great.

Money lost, nothing lost. Confidence lost, everything lost.

2014 FIFA World Cup – “The ‘Slow’ and the Restless” to “The Bold and the Beautiful”…a soap box opera week for the Socceroos

“A week is a long time in football” – author unknown.

The Socceroos are in pole position to advance to the next and final phase of Asian qualifying for the 2014 World Cup.

But not without making a meal of beating lowly ranked Thailand 2-1 in their first qualifying match!

Australia’s performance against Thailand was plain awful and the cause of great distress.

During the Asian Cup, “The ‘F’ Word” lamented the Socceroos’ use of the “long ball” route to goal which led to nothing at times and the players’ apparent arrogance against inferior opposition.  Those lessons had clearly not been learned…

Down 1-0 at half time the Socceroos appeared unimaginative and one dimensional in their path to goal.  Midfielders Carl Valeri and Neil Kilkenny appeared slow and static and the hopeful strategy of having strikers Josh Kennedy and Tim Cahill getting their heads on the end of a cross or long ball (which were generally woeful) was predictable and constituted anti-football. The Thais, missing a number of their first choice players, were threatening a major upset that was only averted by a second half equaliser from Kennedy and a late, lucky winner from Alex Brosque who found the net after being served by Kennedy, who suspiciously used his arm to deliver the assist.

In short, the performance provided more questions than answers. Socceroos coach, Holger Osieck himself conceded that one of the few good things to come out of game was the result.  A much sterner test awaited the team in the shape of Saudi Arabia in the city of Dammam on Wednesday morning…

Saudi Arabia 1       Australia 3

Al-Shamrani (65’)     Kennedy (40’), Kennedy (56’) and Wilkshire (77’)

Now that was a better performance from the team!

The Socceroos appeared more cohesive against Saudi Arabia than the team that played against Thailand and played with more purpose and less arrogance amid the desert heat.  Gone were the futile long balls and slow transition from defence to attack and in came a composed, passing game whereby the players were able to dictate the tempo of the match from start to finish.

Nowhere was the difference more evident than on the right flank.  Against the Thais, Luke Wilkshere and Brett Emerton looked more out of place than the writer at an anti-donut rally.  Against Frank Rijkaard’s men however, the duo had more chemistry than “The Curiosity Show”.  Their movement stretched the Saudis, forcing them to take a reactive approach.

Osieck too, bravely rung the changes and ought to be commended for doing so.  He dropped Cahill and Kilkenny, who were ineffective against Thailand and replaced the inexperienced Matthew Spiranovic with the more assured Sasa Ognenovski.  The tinkering meant Mile Jedinak won back his defensive midfielder’s spot, Matt McKay slotted back into his preferred playmaking role in midfield making way for the fresh and exciting Michael Zullo at left back and Brett Holman played in “the hole” (ie between midfield and defence).

With six points in the bag, yesterday’s B grade actors beginning to look more accustomed to the big stage and a producer who is able to guide them there, the Socceroos are now in an almost impregnable position to march into the final round of qualification.

I only hope they show us more beauty and less beast on their way there.

Sydney Colt’s mail For Rosehill 10 Sept 2011

Every man and his dog wants to tip me something today. I have mail for 7 races but will keep it to 5 which is more than ample to satisfy the punt drunks amongst us.

Race 1 n9 TAVARNELLE Having 1st start but made trial watchers checking their clocks in a recent trial.

Race 2 n3 AKINOSHIRABE e/w This neddy looked good 2 starts ago but pulled up lame explaining its poor last start showing. We can secure an e/w price owing to its last run.

Race 3 n12 STATE GRADE Our VIC cousins know this neddy. Up today for this race. Has G Boss and up in distance – all +++

Race 4 n6 OFCOURSEICAN e/w A very good fresh horse and is 1st up here. Has an excellent barrier and been working very well.

Race 5 n2 SMART MISSILE Is this neddy a superstar? I think it potentially is and I have taken $2.1 fixed odds with BETCHOICE for half my stake and the other half goes on BOB (best of best) with LUXBET. This will give me the best of 3 totes or best bookies fluc whichever is the better price.

If you are still betting with your state TAB you are a fair dinkum idiot!

Money lost, nothing lost. Confidence lost, everything lost.

Sportzfan Radio #216.2

@SportzfanRadio now available on iTunes!28 August 2011 216.2 What better way to start but with Dr Leslie’s CSA followed by Mark Fiorenti talking all things Soccer and the Socceroos. Daniel Eade discusses the upcoming AIHL finals to be played at the Ice House. The Professor and Daniel talk about slow ice/fast ice (originally a topic raised by Dan Butterly) and which one suits the Melbourne Ice. With Paul Dalligan unavailable, the Professor and Daniel also talk NRL and the big bash between Melbourne Storm and Manly players. The Professor thinks it looked more like Gladiator than an NRL match.

Sydney Colt’s Mail For Warwick Farm 3 Sept

Last week we had a huge fill up with 3 wins and 1 place from 5 tips with the best paying $6.4. So we went from baked beans 2 weeks ago to lobster and scampi last week. Not as much mail about this week and I hate that the meeting has been moved from Randwick to ‘The Farm’. Please don’t waste cash at the TAB. Only bet with the Corporate bookies if you have any respect for money.

Race 1 n4 SIENNA RED Not much value here but all the maps have this neddy up front with a lack of true pace. Definitely worth a bet for punt drunks.

Race 4 n8 OBSEQUIOUS Is 1st up and always runs a top race fresh. Has no weight and the corporate bookies let the Sydney Colt’s groupies on at $5.5 yesterday.

Race 8 n14 SECRET ADMIRER Even Stevie Wonder could see how impressive this neddy was 1st up. I’m told it comes in great on ratings and has no weight. Follow this one through the Spring carnival.

Money lost, nothing lost. Confidence lost, everything lost.

The Gambler’s tips for 27 August 2011

With the Gelding off sunning himself on the beaches in Hawaii, our guest tipster ‘the Gambler’, has set himself to try and out tip the Gelding at Caulfield today. Unlike the Gelding, a few of the Gambler’s tips have some odds to them.

Caulfield

Race 4 Horse 11 – Metonymy (for the ladies at the Tennis club)
Race 6 Horse 1 – Heart of Dreams (also for the ladies at the Tennis club)

Sydney Colt’s Mail For Rosehill 27 August

The bookies may have got the cash last week but the confidence to bounce back is sky high with some good mail around for today with a mix of favs and e/w value awaiting.

Race 1 n9 EMERALD DOWNS e/w The mail around this morning says this neddy is ready to run a race 1st up. The fav PHENOMENAL LASS will be hard to run down but I’m happy to bet e/w on our pick.

Race 2 n6 JUST THE TONIC 2 sources have told me how impressive this neddy has been on the track since running great sectionals winning.

Race 5 n2 SMART MISSILE I usually leave it to the Gelding to tip the really short priced horses to keep the win/bet ratio up but this is an exceptional animal who has been training the house down and should be backed at any odds. The only horse to ever finish in front of Sepoy. Oh, and don’t back it e/w 🙂

Race 6 n5 HUME e/w Poor ride in Bris last start and has blinkers and Munce on to help.

Race 7 n7 GYBE e/w Freshened up since winning 3 on the trot and G Boss should be able to give it a soft run just behind the pace.

Money lost, nothing lost. Confidence lost, everything lost.

Danish Rock stop press

The first race at Echuca has been run and won.

1st Heeza Bonza, 2nd Danish Rock, 3rd Spirit of Choice.  Danish Rock was beaten by about five lengths but fought on well for second, kicking again in the straight to fight off the challenge from Spirit of Choice.

A wonderful start to what, is hopefully, a long and successful racing career!!

Paid $2.40 the place on the TAB.
